The colour fades with time, the art is timeless. |
For thousands of years women, and even men in India, North Africa and the Middle East have used henna as a natural hair dye. The naturally occurring properties in the henna plant have been known to condition and strengthen hair and restore shine and lustre.
Now, in seeking out natural hair dyes that do not contain harsh chemicals many people beyond the east, all over the globe, are turning to henna.
When used on black or dark brown hair natural henna powder, produced by grinding the leaves of the Lawsonia Enermis plant, will have a reddish or mahogany glow in sunlight and will help to blend grey into your naturally dark hair.
Spot test your henna paste on an inconspicuous piece of hair and wait 24 hrs to see the effect your recipe will have on your hair.

Recipe for Henna Hair Dye Ingredients: 50 grams of Henna powder (this will be enough for long hair) Water Black Tea Juice of half a lemon 1 cup of plain yogurt |
1) Fill pot with about 4 cups fresh clean water |
2) Add 5 tea bags and about 10 whole cloves and bring to a rolling boil |
3) Allow the tea to boil for 5 minutes. As always use caution when handling hot liquids |
4) Turn off heat and allow the tea to sit for 5 minutes. This gets the tannic acid out of the tea. |
5) Place 50 grams of henna powder in a glass bowl. Plastic and metal utensils will stain. |
6) Remove the tea bags and pour some of the tea mixture into the bowl through a strainer. |

7) Add lemon juice to the henna paste. |
8) Use only enough tea mixture and lemon juice to get to a dough-like consistency. |
9) Cover the henna paste with plastic wrap and allow to sit for a few hours or overnight in order to release the dye. |
10) Stir in one cup of plain yogurt. Make sure your henna paste is fairly thick. Your henna hair dye is ready to use. |
How to apply your natural henna hair dye |

1) Wear latex gloves so that you do not dye your hands. Be careful not to get any henna on your skin or clothes. Put an old towel around your shoulders. Putting Vaseline around the hairline and on the tops of your ears will prevent any unwanted temporary staining of the skin. |
2) Beginning at the top, section hair and apply the henna paste with your gloved hands moving from the roots to the ends of your hair. |

3) Be sure to cover all your hair with the henna paste. |
4) Wrap your hair in plastic wrap or tie it up in a plastic shopping bag. RELAX and let the henna do its magic. Leave the henna paste in your hair for 3 or more hours. The longer the henna is on the more dye is absorbed onto the hair shaft. |
5) If you are a celebrity don’t let the paparazzi catch you looking like this—unless you want them to. Wash your hair as you normally would.
6) what you’re left with is beautiful, shiny, luxurious hair without any gray, that moves with you as you dance through life. |
