Recipe for Making your own Henna Paste
50 grams finely sifted henna powder Water 5 Black Tea Bags A few cloves Juice of one large lemon 1 Tbsp brown sugar 30 drops lavender essential oil
1) |
1) Fill pot with about 4 cups fresh clean water |
2) Add 5 tea bags and about 10 whole cloves and bring to a rolling boil |
3)Allow the tea to boil for 5 minutes. As always use caution when handling hot liquids |
4) Turn off heat and allow the tea to sit for 5 minutes. This gets the tannic acid out of the tea. |
5) Place 50 grams of finely sifted henna powder in a glass bowl. Plastic and metal utensils will stain. |
6) Remove the tea bags and pour some of the tea mixture into the bowl through a strainer. |
7) Use only enough tea mixture to get to a dough-like consistency. |
8) In a separate cup stir together strained lemon juice and brown sugar until well mixed. |
9) Add lemon juice mixture to the henna paste through a strainer |
10) Add more of the tea mixture if needed until you reach a smooth consistency. (similar to chocolate pudding—yum!) |
11) Cover the henna paste with plastic wrap and allow to sit for 8 to 10 hours or overnight in order to release the dye. |
12) Add 30 drops (1.5ml) of Lavendar pure essential oil and stir. Fill your henna cones and begin creating. |
